Learning Kiswahili has been lots of fun for me. Every day this week we had a full day of language training so I’ve been learning a ton; on top of that I learn new vocabulary every day at home from my non-english speaking family. I’ve had some slip-ups, though: the first few days I told my family ninaenda chamba langu (which itself isn’t a gramatically correct phrase) which, at the time, to me meant “I’m going to my room.” Little did I know that when I used the word -chamba in place of chumba, which means “room,” I was telling my family I was going to wash my ass. And in class I slipped and said mimi kunya kahawa saa nne asubuhi, “I always poop coffee at 10:00am” instead of mimi kunywa kahawa saa nne asubuhi, “I always drink coffee at 10:00am.”
